| Tour 1 The Weavers Trail |
|
Chippenham to Lacock [14 miles round trip]
This tour begins in the bustling market town of Chippenham, with its
historic old quarter and heritage museum and then takes you into the
country along the newly established cycle route to Lacock. On route you
will follow the gently flowing River Avon through some of Wiltshire’s
most tranquil rural scenery to one of its most celebrated villages.
Most of the route is completely traffic free, and is well suited to
family cycling. You will almost certainly want to spend time in the
village before either retracing your tracks, or taking a circular
route, through the country lanes and Cotswold stone villages, to
Chippenham. Our self guided tour booklet will not only highlight the
well known points of interest, such as Lacock Abbey, but will introduce
you to some of the lesser known “Gems” on route.

| Tour 2 Avebury - The Beaker Trail |
|
|
Chippenham to Avebury [24 miles round trip]
Again this tour begins in Chippenham, where you can either visit the
old town and museum first or head off immediately into the country
along the car – free cycle route to Calne. This trail has been
established for some time and is one of the best places to see local
wildlife. Our self - guided tour booklet will tell you what to look out
for and highlight points of interest along the trail. You will probably
want to linger a while around “The Green” in Calne before following the
maze of country lanes through the chalk downlands to the prehistoric
site of Avebury with its’ ancient stone circles. The stone circles,
unlike those of Stonehenge, are completely accessible, and many claim
that once inside the circles they can feel the very presence of the
ancient 'Beaker' people who constructed them and worshipped there for
centuries. The route will take you past other prehistoric sites and
back to Calne, where you rejoin the cycleway to Chippenham.
For those who wish to spend more time at the ancient sites, this can be
completed as a two - day tour. We will arrange accommodation and
transport luggage for you, so that all you have to do is pedal and
enjoy the trip.

Tour 3 Medieval Wiltshire
|
|
Chippenham to Malmesbury [ 37 miles, circular route]
Visitors to the county never fail to be impressed by the number and
variety of historic villages, each having its unique flavour, whether
it is an ancient church, an historic manor house, a ready made medieval
film set, or a humble duck pond. You will find all of these on this
tour, which also takes in the town of Malmesbury, one of the oldest
towns in England, with its’ stately abbey and its’ own “Flying Monk”.
As the tour is designed to take you through the villages, the route
follows lanes and by - ways rather than designated cycle routes. A
significant part of the route does however follow the Wiltshire
Cycleway and, for the most part, avoids main roads.
For this tour, our self - guided tour booklet is indispensable, not
only for finding the best route through the lanes, but to tell you what
to look out for on route, and to give you an insight into some of the
myths and legends surrounding some of the places you will visit. One
village worthy of a special mention is Castle Combe, one of the
prettiest villages in England and famous as the film set for “Doctor
Dolittle” and other major costume dramas.
Again this tour can be made into an easier two - day trip, with us
arranging accommodation for you in Malmesbury or one of the villages,
and transporting your luggage.

| Tour 4 The Canal Trail |
 |
Bradford on Avon to Bath [16 mile round trip]
The route begins at the former wool town of Bradford on Avon with its’
Saxon Church, dating back to 700 AD and its’ ancient 13th century
bridge, and follows the completely restored Kennet and Avon Canal in
the direction of the city of Bath. The route is an easy one to ride and
you will be able to make maximum use of our self-guided tour booklet to
avoid missing any of the many ancient and (relatively) modern,
fascinating, sites en route. You will pass by the 14th century Tithe
Barn, aquaducts, numerous locks and a myriad of brightly painted canal
boats cruising slowly and quietly towards their day’s destination. You
can stop for refreshment at one of the pubs or cafes, recommended in
our guide, or picnic by the side of the canal as you watch the boats
and wildlife drift by.
On arriving in Bath, we suggest that you leave your bike at a
pre-arranged, secure spot, and sample the delights of this magnificent
Georgian city on foot. Our self-guided walking tour will not only
direct you to the Roman Baths, The Royal Crescent and other world
renowned sites in the city, but will take you to some of its’ lesser
known curiosities, including, for the more courageous among you, a
short “Ghost Walk”
When you have finished your city exploration, you can either return via
the canal route, or, for more experienced cyclists, follow our scenic,
but hilly, route along quiet lanes which afford panoramic views of the
city and the surrounding countryside.
The most difficult aspect of this tour will be dragging yourself away
from the many attractions, to make sure you have the time to complete
the route – even though it is only 16 miles!

| Tour 5 The World Heritage Tour |
|
[100 miles circular route]
There must be very few places in the world where you can visit three
World Heritage Sites, by bike, over a period of two or three days. This
tour will allow you to do just that, visiting the Avebury Stone
Circles, Stonehenge, and the beautiful City of Bath.
We will arrange accommodation and transport luggage, and all you have
to do is enjoy the Sites and the cycling.
The first stage of the tour, from Chippenham to Avebury, is the same as
that for the Celtic Trail (tour 2) and then you will travel along
picturesque minor roads to the historic city of Salisbury. You will
make a short detour to visit Stonehenge, probably the world’s best
known prehistoric site.
From Salisbury the route takes you up the tranquil valley of the river
Wylye, with its' unspoilt rural villages, and on to the former woollen
town of Bradford on Avon where you join the Canal Trail (Tour 4) to the
centre of Bath.
If you want to really experience the Sites and countryside on this
tour, we would recommend that you take at least three days, with two
overnight stops, but if you are an experienced cyclist and have limited
time available you can make it into a two day ride. Of course, if you
want to take longer, we can help you plan your itinerary and arrange
the required number of nights’ accommodation.
